BioPlus® has pioneered Specialty Pharmacy
What is "Specialty" Pharmacy?

For the past several years, pharmacy has been evolving to address specific needs and issues that arise in medication delivery.

The type of pharmacy is used to better explain the services that it provides.

The classic type of pharmacy is retail. This describes a facility that is more like a store. Retail pharmacies have evolved from drug stores, into chain convenience stores with pharmacies.

There are also infusion pharmacies. This type of pharmacy caters to the needs of patients requiring infusion treatments provided in their home setting. These are most commonly "closed door" facilities.

Over the last few years, insurance companies started to expand their reach and grew their mail-order pharmacies. Mail-order pharmacies are commonly owned in whole or in part by an insurance company. Often times these facilities send out 90-days worth of medication at a time.

BioPlus experience started out as an infusion pharmacy.

Our dedication to detailed patient care plans grew into specialty pharmacy with the development of biotech medications, commonly self-injectable. This continued to grow as biologic medications erupted into the treatment plans. Biologic medications can achieve outstanding results, but they require special handling. These medications often challenge patient compliance because many have long and difficult side effects and can be very costly.

By dedicating our pharmacy to better patient outcomes, and detailed patient care, we are achieving tremendous results in patient compliance and treatment outcomes.

Our services alleviate patients' struggles with complicated insurance benefits. Our high-touch approach to patient care is saving healthcare millions of dollars a year in compliance and outcomes. Our clinical monitoring is allowing doctors to be better informed of patients treatment progression.

So what is "Specialty" Pharmacy?

A specialty pharmacy is one that goes above and beyond just dispensing medications. Specialty pharmacy should show greater outcomes; it is one that staffs highly skilled and educated medication specialists, provides answers and solutions to adverse drug reactions, and side effects, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide care. It should provide an experience that makes a challenging illness a little easier to fight!

Basically, it is a pharmacy that specializes in specific illnesses and treatments.
