How is drug adherence costing your plan MILLIONS?

hands-pills (11K) A recent report by Novartis pharmaceuticals confirmed the ongoing data that supports the poor adherence of patients taking medications for chronic illnesses. The report showed that the average rate of adherence in long term therapies is still only 50%.

Additional data went on to show that 57% of patients failed to adhere to treatment regimens due to forgetfulness or did not specify a reason why. 16% had other priorities, 11% decided to omit doses, 9% didn't have enough information, with an additional 7% citing emotional factors.

reimbursement rate offered by these (PBM) mail order facilities. Not seeing the long term affects of non adherence is proving to cost all health plans combined billions of dollars.

Where is the money going?

1– Months worth of medication being sent to patients who don't follow treatment guidelines

2– Additional doctor visits due to confusion, illness side effects, etc.

3– More ER visits due to side effects

4– Starting and stopping treatment prolongs therapy time.

Four simple issues that when properly addressed can help eliminate the wasted billions of dollars to health plans.

BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy, now providing Specialty Care to Humana Patients

BioPlus has been selected as a specialty drug provider for Humana health plans.

“We are proud that Humana has opened its network to BioPlus. This is continued proof that healthplans that want better outcomes choose BioPlus,” said Enoch Strollo, V.P. of Sales and Marketing.

For over 20 years, BioPlus has maintained a personalized care approach to specialty pharmacy, while many health plans opted for the mail order approach. “The mail order model is one that is beneficial for certain medications,” said Enoch, “however, healthplans are realizing that the outcomes are just as bad and sometimes worse than retail, where it applies to specialty medications.”

“We are certain that we will be able to show Humana significant returns on their investment in our resources.” Enoch continued. If you are a healthplan that is interested in discussing a complete and true specialty drug model and designing a program that can show you returns, contact us at BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy or call (866) 858-1064.

BioPlus Expands location...again!

BioPlus announced this month that they will be expanding their facilities again this quarter. “It is crucial to always be forward thinking,” said Dr. Steve Vogt, PharmD and CEO of BioPlus. “Our reputation is one of superior service and significantly greater outcomes,” he continued, “this reputation has led to an ever growing trust with our prescribers across the country. It has also drawn the attention of health plans across the country that continue to seek the answer to the compliance crisis facing their bottom line.” This expansion will mark the third in as many years. “We have 20 years of dedicated service as a specialty pharmacy,” Dr. Vogt said, “we have the most experienced management team, and we know that the only way to continue to show greater outcomes in chronic illnesses is to have the most qualified clinical specialists caring for them. As the demand increases, so does our need for space. Our expansions are an investment in our patients, ensuring comfortable work settings for our crucial Patient Care Coordinators, Doctors of Pharmacy, Insurance Specialists and support staff. These are the things that make us unique from a mail order model.”

Upgraded Clean room facilities completed

cleanroom (9K)
Although our current clean room and Policy and Procedures have met USP Chapter 797 requirements (even before they were requirements) for 10 years, we wanted to update our clean room with a high tech flexible environmental structure that provided more space. Our new clean room complies with USP Chapter 797 and is a compounding environment that supplies HEPA filtered air and meets ISO Class 7 or better air quality measurement results and which the access to is limited to personnel trained and authorized to perform sterile compounding and facility cleaning.

"Achieving and maintaining sterility and overall freedom from contamination of a compounded sterile product is dependent on the quality status of the components incorporated, the process utilized, personnel performance, and the environmental conditions under which the process is performed." USP Chapter 797, pg. 19.
